About German School Upstate

Founded in 1996 as Die Deutsche Schule Spartanburg, GSU has grown into one of the Upstate's most established German language programs — serving families in Greenville and Spartanburg for nearly 30 years.

Our Mission

We believe the Carolinas' deep cultural and economic ties to German-speaking countries deserve a school that reflects that relationship. GSU is a non-profit school governed by volunteer board members, with one goal: make quality German education accessible, affordable, and lasting. Support from donors and sponsors helps us keep tuition affordable and expand access for families across the Upstate.

GSU admits students regardless of race, color, nationality, or ethnicity.
